The presence of a Marine corporal at the front door
confirmed that President Bush was in residence during our visit,
but passing Ari Fleischer as he was leaving was as close
as I got to top White House officialdom.

And speaking of the departing Press Secretary,
Elena managed to take one bootleg photograph of me
standing behind the podium
in the White House press briefing room.
All photos inside the West Wing are forbidden.
