Marjorie at Camp Wono (1964)

Scanned slides from the 1950s through the 1980s

Visiting Marjorie Hallahan at Camp Wono
Cape Cod Bay, MA (1964)

For the past three generations of the Bowers and Hallahan families,
starting with my mother and her brother back in the 1920s and 1930s,
summers meant spending at least two months away at camp,
either out on Cape Cod or deep in the North Woods of Maine (or both).
Following in her aunt's footsteps, my cousin Marjorie
learned sailing, shooting, archery, and other life skills at Camp Wono.

In August 1964, my parents drove up to the Cape
to visit their niece, and took a few slides, which I recently digitized.

Camp Wono (now known as Sea Camps) celebrated its 90th year of continuous operation in 2017.

And in 2012, Marjorie returned with a friend -- and found Otis, the same camp director, still on the job.
Yes, she's the young archer in the brochure and the gorgeous grandmother on the left.
